This is it. This is the day. I've saved up all my money, it's taken me two whole months but I've finally done it.
I can buy myself a Porygon.
It'll be my first Pokemon, ever.
I'm more excited than I've ever been, almost running down the road toward his house. I haven't known him for long, but he's always been nice to me, offering to let me have his Porygon if I saved enough money. I really like him.
When I get to his house, I rapidly knock on the door. It only takes a few seconds for the door to open.
"Hello?" He looks around, then notices me, and smiles.
"Hello! I've finally saved enough money to buy that Porygon!" I look up at him, grinning.
He lets me in and we talk for a few minutes before he decides that it's time to show me my new Pokemon. He gives me the Pokeball, and I open it, letting the large pink and blue birdlike Pokemon out. I also scream with excitement, as I see not only my first Pokemon, but my favorite Pokemon! I look up at him and he smiles warmly, pleased that I'm satisfied.
My new Pokemon, who I've called Otis, is half as tall as I am, and surprisingly heavy, considering the fact that it was made on a computer.
I look around, for him, that man, but he's not in the room anymore. I look back down at Otis, who's floating carelessly up and down, occasionally making a small buzzing or jingling noise.
The man re-enters the room, but he's walking slowly, carefully, as if he is afraid to tell me something. I look at him as he approaches me, his arms at his sides. He holds out his left arm, in it is another Pokeball. I hesitate, and look up at him, confused. He stares silently, but doesn't move or say anything. After a few moments of indecision, I take the Pokeball from him.
"...what is this?" I turn the Pokeball in my hand, examining it as if it were something I had never seen before.
He is silent for a bit, thinking of what to say.
"It...it's something I've had for a long time." He reaches up and runs a hand through his wild dark brown hair, "It's something I'd like you to keep for a while."
I reach to open the Pokeball, to see what's in it but he whacks my hand before I get to, causing the Pokeball to sail across the room, and into a pile of stuff in the corner. I stare at him in shock then run quickly over to where it landed, and retrieve it. Walking back I look at him and realize that he looks terrified.
"W-what did I do?" I ask, confused by his actions.
He looks around then leans over and whispers to me:
"Don't ever, under any circumstances, open that Pokeball. Do you understand?"
I'm nervous and almost trembling at this point but I nod, not fully knowing why he asks but his severity makes me believe that he's warning me fairly.
He straightens up, still looking at me warily. He turns away, and ignores my presence. I try to get his attention several times, but he only leaves after I begin to annoy him. Slightly confused and frustrated, I return Otis and take one last look at the second Pokeball before leaving to go home.
I walk into my room, carefully closing the door behind me, making sure is doesn't creak loudly, as it usually does. It's after sunset, and the house is getting dark, so I turn a light on and walk up to my desk to set both of the Pokeballs down. I look at the one that contains Otis, and examine the sharp highlights on its top, and the way the light makes it almost glow. I start to smile but remember the other Pokeball. I pick it up to examine it carefully, it seems to be just like any other Ball, I don't know why he told me not to open it...I put it back down. I decide that it's getting late, and that I should get some sleep.
I wake up. It's still dark. I get up and slowly wander over to my desk, to look at the clock. The numbers on the clock seem off, somehow. What time is it...? I stare for another few minutes then decide that I'm just too tired to figure it out. I sigh and walk back over to my bed, crawling onto it and under the covers to fall asleep once more.
Why are my dreams so unsettling?
The next morning I wake up, and the first thought that comes to my mind is Otis. I hurriedly jump out of bed and run over to the desk. Picking up the Ball, I let Otis out. He immediately turns around and looks up at me, making a soft beeping sound. I smile at how cute he is; I just love Porygon! I return him and stuff the Pokeball into my pocket. I run to the door and grab the knob to open it when I remember the other Pokeball. I turn slowly around to look at it, thinking. He told me to never open it. Should I bring it with me...? I let go of the knob and walk over to the desk, carelessly grabbing the extra Pokeball from it. Looking at it one more time I shrug and stuff it into my other pocket.
It's a beautiful day today, there are Bird Pokemon flying in the sky and the small Wurmples and Caterpies are crawling in the grasses. I was originally planning to go into the forest to train Otis (As he's only Level 15 or so.) but instead I decide to go to the Meadow, I think there are strong enough Pokemon in there. I start to run quickly down the narrow path leading to the Meadow, with Otis barely keeping up behind me.
It only takes about five minutes to get there, but by the time I'm there I'm very tired, so I decide to sit down with Otis and rest for a bit. I look around at all the beautiful scenery, the grass and how it sways in the gentle breeze, the clouds in the sky, so soft and fluffy like the wings of Altaria...then my mind goes to the other Pokeball. I have it with me, and I don't know what I'm to do with it. He told me to never open it, but I must know why! What is in this forbidden Pokeball?
I look around, stand up, look around one more time, and slowly reach into my pocket for the Pokeball. Otis looks up at me, and I swear I see some kind of nervousness in his eyes. I pull the other Pokeball out, and stare at it, turning it slowly in my hand. I stare at it for a while longer, wondering. Should I open it? I was warned so strongly not to.
After careful decision, I reach for the button and press it, opening the Pokeball.
At first there was nothing, I thought that the ball was empty, until I look up and see what has come out of it. The Pokemon (if one can call it that) that stands before me is something I will never forget.
I barely even see it, I almost can't understand what it is, but what I can see is terrifying, a shapeless mass of black and white, writhing and undulating while spewing pieces of itself everywhere, which melt into the ground like water, but leave dark grey stains where they land. My head begins to ache, and I need to look away, but I don't seem to be able to. My body begins to tremble, and I squeeze my eyes shut, almost collapsing from the pain that's spread through my body. I can hear Otis's cries, they sound almost frantic, but I can barely tell through the pain, everything is melding into one and I hear the sounds of Otis, but other sounds as well, they must be that. That thing. I clench my teeth and finally collapse as everything goes black, and I am left in silence.
I take a sharp breath, numb.
I slowly begin to feel.
I can feel...dirt? Yes...and stone. It's cold, very cold.
What is this? Where am I?
I open my eyes, but they hurt now.
My entire body aches, and my vision is blurry.
All I can see are small, distant shapes.
I move my hand closer to my chest, it's difficult, but I manage.
I can hear the sound of rain, splashing on me and next to the ground.
I'm getting wet, and cold.
I need to get up.
This entire world seems grey, and empty. I haven't seen anyone, and I've been walking down this path for a long time. I begin to remember what happened, that thing, and I shudder at the memory of the pain. I can't remember much before that, though. I can only conjure up one word: Otis. Maybe if I keep walking, I'll remember...
I've been walking for what seems like hours, all the while never seeing any Pokemon. I look up at the deep grey sky, the cold rain running down my face. I hear a sudden, soft beep and quickly look in the direction it came from, and see a faint pink shape dissappear into a patch of tall grass. Curious, I persue the shape and search the grass. After looking around, a Porygon suddenly pops out of the gras and beeps softly, greeting me. I'm startled by this, as its appearence was sudden and it is the first Pokemon I've seen since I got here. It quickly starts nuzzling my leg, and I'm confused at first, but then I suddenly remember.
With a sudden burst of joy I wrap my arms around the pink and blue Pokemon, delighted that I finally have a companion.
We're resting under a tree in the meadow, now. Otis is floating around, searching his surroundings. I'm still trying to remember what happened. I met that terrible thing, but where did I get the Pokeball to begin with? I tip my head back, closing my eyes to think. Then I hear a distant noise, a roar, but it is distorted, like static. I quickly open my eyes and try to locate it. I stand up to look around when a Charizard steps out of the tall grass. I know how big and dangerous Charzard normally are, but this one seems calm. All I can do is stay as still as possible and hope not to provoke it. Without moving my head, I try to find Otis, but he isn't in my sight. I slowly turn my head and realize that he's right by my side, staring at the Charizard. Relieved I look at the Charizard, which seems to be like any Charizard, but something seems off. The Charizard rears its head and opens its mouth, inhaling. At first, there is silence but then out of its gaping maw comes a loud static roar. I squint at the noise, but continue examining it. It stares blankly into space then stretches its wings out and lunges toward me. Otis quickly jumps in front of me and charges up a Hyper Beam, a move I never thought he knew, as I thow my arms in front of my face. Quickly Otis releases the attack in a blast of bright light and when the light clears, the Charizard is still standing, unaffected by the attack. My eyes widen at this, as I have no defenses against it, and if I try to run it will chase me down. Its gaze suddenly snaps to me, and it stares for several moments, as my breaths become quicker, and it opens its mouth once more, but this time, instead of letting out a loud cry, it's body begins to disintegrate. The small orange squares of the Charizard float away as more detatch and soon the Charizard is no more than tatters of what it was. The tatters begin to twitch and vibrate as they emit a loud static, which becomes mixed with the cries of other Pokemon, and eventually the garbled mass of tattered Charizard bits and the loud, unending distorted sounds they emit begin to hurt my head, and I raise my hand to place it upon the top of my head as I squint, but still keep my gaze on what was left of the Charizard. Suddenly, the tatters explode into a mass of black and white, exactly like what I had seen before, and I feel the same pain as before and fall to my knees, unable to bear any more of it. The mass spreads and I fall into myself, covering my head with my arms, tears streaming down my face as I feel the mass enveloping me, squeezing me in an unbearable pain, I open my eyes and the the only thing I can see is Otis, and I swear I see fear in his eyes.
